State Mock Trial

State Runner-Up Team - Americas High School, El Paso, Texas

Our oldest son, Zach, just competed in the State Mock Trial Competition in Dallas, TX. The competition was extremely competitive with 24 teams from various regions of the state. Prior to making the cut for state, Americas HS Mock Trial went undefeated at the Region competition. They took first place out of 16 teams. At the state competition, they announced the top ten teams up to 5th place. After several individual and special recognitions, they finally announced the final four. Americas HS advanced!!!

At the semi-final round, Americas HS competed against Dallas Hillcrest HS. Highlands was a strong team, but Team Americas was so confident and had the best round ever. Then, team Americas was announced the winner of the semi-final round to advance to the state championship round. The opposing team was Dallas Skyline HS, a team that Americas went up against in round two, so the kids already knew their strengths and weaknesses.

The final round was nailbiting. Federal District Judge Mary Ann Lyn presided in her own courtroom at the Federal Court House. In addition to Judge Lyn, the jury consisted of 7 practicing attorneys. Skyline was announced state champs, but Team Americas has so much to be proud of!!! Americas HS was the first team in the last ten years to represent El Paso in the finals.
